Mission Statement
We, the Youth Empowerment and Policy Project, provide a statewide youth perspective while working with communities to gather information on the effect that alcohol has on youth and disseminate that information to our communities, state, and nation.

Summary
YEPP is an active, diverse group of students from around the state of Maine trained in public speaking, facilitation, and policy issues.  The Youth Empowerment and Policy Project was established in 2001 with the primary goal of involving Maine's youth in the effort to decrease underage drinking. The philosophy of the project is that, because underage drinking is a problem affecting the youth population, the most effective way to analyze and improve the environment is to directly involve the youth in the discussion.

Why I Joined
I joined YEPP because health issues around alcohol, especially those that affect youth, are issues where more attention is needed than ever. Very few people know about the dangers of underage drinking in their entirety, and it is an area of health and concern that needs as much help as it can get.  -Ellen

I joined YEPP because ever since my mom began to work in the substance abuse field I wanted to learn more.  Then I was told about YEPP.  I was immediately interested and I applied.  Now, I am part of YEPP and I have learned so much about the prevention of underage drinking and substance use. -Stasia

Funded By
YEPP is funded by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Substance Abuse and is a program of AdCare Educational Institute of Maine, Inc.
